Where Equalizer 3 was filmed: in Italy’s smallest town on the Amalfi Coast
I was also engulfed by the film of Equalizer 3, but the thing that surprised me most was knowing where it was filmed.
I am not going to stand here and describe a review of the film as it is not in my wheelhouse and I would not be objective, I will leave it to you to tell me what you think in the comments.
The plot of Equalizer 3:
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile himself to the horrible things he did in the past and finds a strange comfort in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in southern Italy, he discovers that his new friends are under the thumb of local crime bosses. As the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, McCall knows what he must do: take on the mob to protect those he loves.
Robert McCall, the now-retired former CIA agent, has retired to a town in southern Italy, where he seeks redemption for crimes committed as a government killer. Now, McCall focuses on the pursuit of justice on behalf of the oppressed.
In the town where he has settled, however, crime is rampant: many of his new friends are oppressed by the local Mafia boss, who controls an entire territory under his aegis. When the situation precipitates, McCall decides to return to action again, challenging the criminal power without setting himself any limits. It is perhaps the only thing he knows how to do, but he feels that this time, too, it is the correct one.
Where Equalizer 3 was filmed:
They filmed almost the entire movie in the same Italian suburb except for a few scenes in and around Naples. The funny thing I don’t understand is why they wanted to reposition the plot in Sicily, after all Atrani is only less than two hours from Naples and I don’t think it was an intentional choice because of the mafia connection.
I was working in Amalfi when they started filming this movie, that’s all they talked about for a long time. Netflix started at the beginning to put ads around to find extras, in fact there are even some of my friends in the film. For almost a whole summer season they blocked off the village of Atrani, on the Amalfi Coast.
I can confirm that nothing was changed in Atrani in the film except the use of the premises. Like the bar where the protagonist sits for tea in reality is a restaurant.
It is evident, however, and this I would like to emphasize, that even in the reality of our places people make you feel like family as in the film.
Gratitude and courtesy play a major role in our customs, which is why tourism in our Bel Paese is moving in the direction of authentic experiences followed by locals, we are like that, we are family.
An unexpected ending
It may be that the film was shot a year or two before the release of Equalizer 3, but the ending left everyone speechless.
The victory of the country’s soccer team’s Scudetto, celebrated with the color blue was a foreshadowing of what happened in 2023, Napoli’s grandiose victory, which had not happened in exactly 33 years!
